ear infection

  • Aug. 20th, 2008 at 12:47 PM
Pretty sure I've got one. Haven't been to a doctor out here yet. I have insurance (Blue Cross/Blue Shield) but is there anywhere I can go real quick for something little like this?
Thanks

Metrocard weirdness

  • Aug. 20th, 2008 at 11:18 AM
Hey guys

Last nite I found out my regular golden metrocard only had 25 cents on it (I know, its a weird amount). So I went to the vending machine to add 2 bucks and I was able to swipe into the subway with no problems. But when I attempted to transfer to a bus, I got a card error that said the card only had 25 cents on it.

I thought that only those paper single rides didn't allow for bus-to-subway transfer. What am I missing here ?? Or was it all a one-time fluke ??

Thanks!!

Green Education

  • Aug. 20th, 2008 at 10:45 AM
Perhaps a strange question...

Does anyone know of any continuing education programs that focuses on Green Issues?

I'm looking into new career paths for myself and I don't know what or which schools would be addressing this on an academic level.

Any advice or direction would be welcome and helpful. Thanks!

Restaurant recs for out-of-towner?

  • Aug. 20th, 2008 at 10:00 AM
Totally clueless, but an older buddy is asking for general recs for lunch (midday) ideas in Manhattan to entertain someone visiting from the 'burbs who'd like some good food, though not necessarily four-star quality. The food just has to be good, or "authentic" if it is something off the beaten path. Casual or semi-casual atmosphere and preferably moderate cost.

Can be anywhere in Manhattan as long as it's accessible by subway, though relatively fun or laidback parts of Manhattan would be nice. (Queens will also be considered, but again it must be easily accessible by subway at midday.)

Some preferences:
- any type of ethnic food, but *good* ethnic food
- miscellaneous sort of unique "local" (as in mostly NYC flare) fare is good, if decent
- Spicy not required, but also good
- Preferably reservations not required for midday.

The more diverse ideas, the better. My buddy will give a compiled list to the visitor and together they'll eagerly peruse and pick from the list.

hey :D

Crazy Movie Buff Here..

  • Aug. 20th, 2008 at 7:57 PM
Hi, crazy movie buff here... been thinking I could do with some new friends. I'm a friendly person.

I like to think my posts are interesting... well, to me :-D

I'm an enthusiastic geeky type of person. I love TV Shows, Movies, Books, so that's what I tend to talk about.

I get chatty quite a bit, but I try to keep it upbeat. I'm not a big touchy-feely person, so you won't find anything too personal on my lj. You won't find any depressing navel gazing on my lj. I may rant about something, but I expect everyone to take my rants with a grain of salt.

Things I'm crazy in love about:

Heroes
Pushing Daisies
Milo Ventimiglia
Real Living Magazine

Have a look at my lj, see for yourself. Welcome to anyone :-)

Vacationing in Montreal

  • Aug. 20th, 2008 at 4:51 AM
Well, I'm in Montreal and from what I've seen so far, it's a very nice city. So far, 4 conversations were started about my Brompton bicycle. The bus driver and the Montreal station manager were wowed when I took it out of the Brompton bag. I showed it to them after I told them I didn't need a taxi to the hotel that I asked them directions for. There are a lot of bicycles here. It's a bike centric city, it seems. Nice bike lanes. Mine is the only folder I've seen so far. And judging by the wow factor that my bike is getting, I don't think there are many, at least not many Bromptons.

I arrived here in shorts, but before I left the hotel, I switched to jeans. It is pretty chilly up here. When I left NY, it was comfortably warm. I should have brought a jacket with me. The hotel is nice. It's close to St. Catheriine's, which is the really happening avenue around here. I walked along part of it yesterday as I looked for a good place to eat. I found one, thanks to an onliine friend. I will probably go back there today.

I took some photos, but not so many, yet. I will wind up taking a lot more today, I'm sure.

I didn't notice until I got up here that Apple also replaced my keyboard. Some of the letters on the old keyboard were worn out but this one is perfect. How did I miss that? Probably because at home I rarely use the laptop. Love Apple.

I fell asleep at 6pm. I was so tired from lack of sleep. I didn't sleep before I got on the bus at 5am this morning. I slept on the bus, here and there, but you know how that goes; it's always interrupted sleep. I should have taken along some food for the bus trip because anywhere the bus stopped there was nothing at these stops that I would put in my body. Pure garbage is offered at these places.

I saw one bag of peanut brittle at the US Duty Free store which is right before the Canadian, which had "this product may contain traces of nuts" written on the label. Maybe they realize that peanuts are not nuts. That just dawned on me. I thought it was funny, anyway.

One main problem of falling asleep at 6pm is waking up at 3am and not being able to fall back asleep. I have the television on. There are a few English speaking channels. I have the Olympics on in the background. I just watched Shawn Johnson get her gold medal. She's cute. I'm sorry I missed the gymnastic events.

I'm wishing I knew how to speak French, now. French is the main language here, although lots of people do speak English. I don't have to convert my money because they accept American dollars here. You can also pay for things with a credit card which is probably the best because you get the most up to date exchange rate. When you do pay with American cash, they give you the change in CAD. I have a couple of 20 dollar bills reserved for that task.

Pictures to follow at some time today or tonight.

I want to start an indoor herb garden in my apartment. Any tips on how to start and where to get plants in the city? Thanks!!

I can always use more friends. <3

My name is Ashley. I am currently engaged to the love of my life, I have a one year old daughter and I live in Arizona. I'm getting ready to start classes at the Art Institute of Phoenix as a graphic design major. I write about my day to day life, as most people do. I know how to use an lj-cut. I recently came back to LJ after quite a bit of time away and I'm getting back into journaling. I'm an icon maker. And I do other graphics too.

Add me if you fit into one of these catagories...
- You know how to use an lj-cut.
- You don't post stupid quiz results or memes unless behind a cut.
- You are literate and post in English.
- You're a photographer, amateur or not.
- You're a graphic designer, student or interested in design.
- You're an art student of any kind.
- You're a parent.
- You don't mind foul language. I have a potty mouth.
- You comment every often.

Hey

  • Aug. 19th, 2008 at 11:22 PM
I'll be 20 years old soon.. August 22. :D I'm a sophomore in college, majoring in Graphic Design & Communications at the moment.
I love art, fashion, books, and web design. I am very into photography and I always take a camera with me wherever I go.
Hence why I went over the 200 picture limit on my free flickr account: http://flickr.com/photos/hysteria_type_a
Boohoo.

I'm looking for people who update frequently, because I'm nosy and I like to read about stranger's lives, basically.
It passes the time when you're taking a break from studying.
I mostly write about humor, fashion, and art. Sometimes I slip in a little personal entry here and there.
I have made my recent entries public lately so take a look if you're interested. I keep the personal entries friends-only.

I also post a lot of photos of events and whatever I feel like. An example of what you might see:

Yeah. That's me on top of my little sister. She swears it never happened.
I guess if you're into visuals, you'll like my entries. Haha.

So, if you update frequently... or are just curious, then feel free to add me :)

Rotadent brush

  • Aug. 19th, 2008 at 10:37 PM
Does anyone use a Rotadent toothbrush? I am trying to buy replacement heads for mine, but my dentist is not in this state and I'm looking for a local dentist who sells them. I could buy them online, but I'm trying to save on shipping.
